This weekend is Players weekend in the MLB. A new event, this is the only weekend in the Big Leagues where the players get to break dress code and wear some unique swag. One cool aspect is the players got to have their nickname on their jersey instead of their last name. The other cool part is the custom cleats. The players had the chance to work with their favorite sneaker artist and get their baseball cleats painted however they wanted. This year I painted cleats for Chris Devenski and Joe Musgrove of the Houston Astros.
Chris grew up in Orange County near the Santa Ana water tower. We decided to paint a map of Orange County wrapping around the heels of the shoes. A portrait of his mother was on the outside next to his nickname Devo. The other shoe was a shoutout to his dad, with the name Dr. Junk.
Joe is a local California too! He grew up in San Diego. Him and I agreed on a stylized SD sunset using the blue and orange colors of the Houston Astros. His nickname is Moose which we put on the outside of the left shoe. The outside of the right shoe has a throwback logo from Joe's old baseball league.
