Here was the challenge: customize 250 pairs of Nike Air Force 1s in under 2 hours. This was going to be a custom sneaker activation like never before. Check this out: Every year 2 teams get invited to play in the Rose Bowl. It's the basically the biggest college football game of the year, almost always played on New Year's Day. This annual football game started in 1902 and is nicknamed "The Grandaddy Of Them All" by broadcaster Keith Jackson.
Team B Street has done lots of custom sneaker activation events before, but this one had an additional challenge: Split up the sneaker artist team between 2 hotels. The players for University of Oregon were staying at the JW Marriot in Downtown LA, while the players for Ohio State were staying at the world famous Intercontinental Hotel in Downtown LA. (Which also happens to be the tallest building on the west coast.)
The NCAA and Rosebowl committee always like gifting the players something special, and this year it was customized Nikes. Before the event, we made a design menu for the players to pick from.
Some of the options they got were palm trees, footballs, their initials, jersey numbers and school logos. The Rosebowl squad was nice enough to give us a few students to help with crowd control and helping the football players fill out the menu. They were also in charge of making sure we had their shoe size and putting the finished design menu inside the box.
The event organizers did an amazing job of transforming the hotels. The JW Marriott had that Oregon spirit, and the Intercontinental hotel had the red for Ohio State.
These players need to get mentally ready for the big game, and the hotels did their part.
